The Deep Space Nine miniature was only a partial miniature - I think it may have been the one used for shots of approaching ships as seen from Ops and for some docking shots. The filming miniatures of the USS Defiant and Deep Space Nine were included in the 2001: Building for Space Travel exhibit. Both sets were taken at the Museum Of Flight in Seattle, WA. At the request of the new government, Starfleet assumed control - renamed the station "Deep Space 9" and assigned the relatively low-ranking Commander Benjamin Sisko to run it. It was abandoned 18 years later when the planet regained it's freedom. so don't even ask.ĭeep Space 9 was built by the Cardassians as "Terek Nor" in 2351 as a mining station orbiting Bajor. Designs of new ships are evolutionary improvements over their predecessors - as is fitting for a well-established background such as the Trek universe. Many are familiar - from the Galaxy, Nebula, Vor'Cha and Warbird -class ships of TNG to the Akira, Steamrunner, and older refit Reliant/Miranda and Excelsior-class ships from the movies. Starships and space-going craft are a big part of the show. By the end of it's seven year run it was considered by many to be the best of franchise.
Somewhere along the line, however, DS9 found it's footing. As a result, fans did not immediately take to it, many complaining that the new show had turned traitor to Roddenberry's ideals.

Problems from one episode don't just end with the episode like with TNG or the OS. People really have to live with the choices they have made. Even the federation does some very bad things when they are in dire situations. There are complex motives behind many of the bad guys. kai Winn and gul dukat both grow and change from series beginning to end and are the best villains ever. Characters actually grow and change realistically and has reoccurring villains that have real depth and you never know quite what they are going to do. This series has so many things going for it. This story is much darker and more thought provoking than the other series. It has many reoccurring secondary characters that help the the space station seem like a fascinating place for the show to take place. The thing that really makes this show so good is its large cast. Although there is still plenty of adventure. This series for the most part stays on Deep space nine. most star trek series is spent having adventures on a star ship.
